Single module continuous lasers and multimode continuous lasers are widely used in laser cutting equipments. In the cutting application, the beam focus spot of the fiber laser has an important influence on the quality of the cut. The fiber core in fiber optic cable of the single-mode laser is relatively thin, the beam quality is better than the multi-mode, and its application advantages are gradually becoming more prominent. This chapter takes an example of a single module 5000W and multimode 6000W for a comparative analysis.

Thin plate cutting speed is faster

Compared with multi-mode 6KW, single-module 5KW when cutting stainless steel, 1-4mm medium-thickness plate ,its cutting efficiency is increased by 8%-87%, and the cutting speed of 5-8mm thickness is same.

Compared with multi-mode 6KW and single-module 5KW cutting carbon steel, the cutting efficiency of 1-2mm thin plate using nitrogen gas is increased by 60%, and the cutting speed of 3-8mm thickness is the same.

Laser-cut Thick plates with single module laser are equally excellent  .The efficiency of single module 5000W in cutting thin plate is obviously improved, and it is also excellent in cutting thick plate.

From the test data, it can be concluded that compared with multimode 6KW, single module 5KW cutting stainless steel, 10-20mm thick plate cutting speed is the same.

From the test data, it is concluded that compared with multi-mode 6KW, single module 5KW cutting carbon steel, 10-25mm thick plate cutting speed is the same.

More energy saving            Compared with multi-mode 6000W, the energy consumption of single module 5000W can be saved by 25%.

Less volume and weight

Compared with multimode 6000W, the volume and weight of single module 5000W are reduced by 76% and 55%.

Better integration

The larger the single module power is, the fewer modules are needed, the more compact the structure is, and the smaller the beam size is, the higher the beam combining efficiency and the more stable the performance is. Taking 15 000 W ultra-high power fiber laser as an example, only 3 single modules of 5 000 W can be combined.
